Updated: Our Thoughts and Prayers are with Palermo Family

By - December 29, 2014

In this time of loss, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Thomas Palermo, a custom bike frame builder, father and friend to many in the cycling community.

Tom tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday afternoon on Roland Avenue in North Baltimore. As details emerge of the incident and offending driver’s background, cyclists and other vulnerable road users cannot help but feel endangered by the institutions responsible for maintaining roadway safety. We trust the investigators and prosecutors to hold responsible parties accountable for their actions which took Tom’s life.

Bike Maryland is coordinating with Bikemore and other local advocates in the wake of this tragedy to collect and present the facts in a way that will educate and execute positive change. A press release will be forthcoming.

A memorial ride and vigil will be held Thursday January 1st, 2015 at 3:30 PM. The ride start will be at Bishop Square Park, Northwest corner of intersection at Charles Street and University Parkway (adjacent from the Cathedral of the Incarnation) and the vigil will be held at Gallery 788 and De Kleine Duivel.

RSVP and directions here.
