From the event organizer:

Do you drive, walk, or bike on Suitland Road north of Silver Hill Rd? Would you like to see the street improved for people who walk and bike? Come take a walk with the WABA Action Committee for Prince George’s County, Black Women Bike and members of the Suitland Civic Association to discuss ideas about a safer Suitland Road.

About the Safer Suitland Road Campaign

Suitland Road runs 1.6 miles from Southern Ave. in SE DC to Silver Hill Road. Though it links nearby neighborhoods to shops, transit and workplaces, Suitland Road is a hostile place for people on foot or bike. With 18 foot lanes, drivers easily drive above the 30 mph speed limit. There are bus stops, but no continuous sidewalks to get to them. There is ample room for bicyclists, but no accommodations to make them feel safe. Suitland Road offers many places to go, but only if the trip starts with car keys.

It does not have to be this way. The extra-wide lanes could easily be reconfigured to accommodate more than just cars, without removing car lanes. Join us in creating a safer, more welcoming street for all. Come hear our ideas and share yours!
